Driving Directions

If you are traveling from within Washington, you will need to join onto Northbound Hwy 97 prior to the Tonasket area.

From the Puget Sound area, Interstate 90, Hwy 2 or Hwy 20 all intersect with Hwy 97 as you travel east. Which route you take is up to you and your location relative to the highways.

Each of the GoogleMaps embedded below give the preferred travel route for each highway option.

From the Puget Sound Area:

Via I-90:

If you are coming from the Seattle area and will be using Interstate 90, the shortest route is to exit at Cle Elum at Exit 85 to join onto Hwy 970, then follow Hwy 970 to where it intersects with Northbound Hwy 97. Follow Hwy 97 over Blewett Pass to the intersection where it joins Eastbound Hwy 2 and follow Hwy 2/97 into Wenatchee and then onto Northbound Hwy 2/97.
Via Hwy 2:

If you are coming from the Everett vicinity, Highway 2 is the more direct route to Wenatchee. Simply head east on Hwy 2 out of Monroe to Wenatchee until it intersects with and joins Northbound Hwy 97. Bear in mind that most of Hwy 2 is a two-lane highway that passes through several towns and traffic may be an issue at certain times.

Regardless of whether you use I-90 or Highway 2 to get to Wenatchee, you want to be on the EAST side of the Columbia River on Hwy 2/97 as you head north from Wenatchee. Do not turn onto Hwy 97A on the west side of the river unless you want to route through Chelan. The combined Hwy 2/97 splits at Orondo - you then stay on Northbound Hwy 97 all the way to Oroville.

Via Hwy 20:

Highway 20, the North Cascades Highway, is a more scenic option for travelling and the most direct path for people coming from the Mount Vernon / Bellingham / Island County area. Like Highway 2, it is mostly a two-lane highway and subject to slow traffic at times. Travel east on Hwy 20 until it instersects and joins Hwy 97 at Okanogan and head north.

From Eastern Washington:
